McClellan Kicks Off Infrastructure Week By Delivering $725,000 to Henrico County to Support Universal Broadband Access

May 13, 2024

Henrico, VA – Today, Congresswoman Jennifer McClellan (VA-04) kicked off Infrastructure Week by delivering $725,000 to Henrico County to support broadband deployment and help close the digital divide. The federal funding will support the County’s Universal Broadband Deployment project to extend fiber-to-the-home (FTTH) infrastructure to 412 serviceable units.

McClellan successfully secured the $725,000 in federal funding through the annual appropriations process. In total, McClellan secured over $15 million for 15 local projects and priorities throughout Virginia’s Fourth Congressional District.

“In today’s increasingly digital world, internet access is no longer a luxury – it’s a necessity,” said Congresswoman McClellan. “I am thrilled to deliver this robust federal funding to Henrico County to expand broadband access to all unserved locations throughout the county. This is another important step in our continued efforts to close the digital divide and ensure every Virginian has access to quality, high-speed internet access. I commend all the local leaders in Henrico County for their partnership and efforts throughout this process. I will continue fighting in Washington to bring federal funding back to Virginia’s Fourth Congressional District.”

“On behalf of Henrico County, I want to thank Congresswoman McClellan for her partnership in ensuring universal broadband access to our residents and community,” said Henrico Board of Supervisors Chairman Tyrone E. Nelson, of the Varina District. “Fast, reliable high-speed internet is essential for education, employment and daily life in the 21st century. As a county, we talk a lot about creating one Henrico – building a community that sees, serves and respects everyone. By making universal broadband a reality in Henrico County, we will be another step closer to that vision of one Henrico.”

The Universal Broadband Deployment Project will expand FTTH infrastructure to 376 residential homes, 35 businesses, 3 community anchors, and 11 non-residential sites. Based on the extensive field inspections, comparisons to County data, and the online survey results, the County and All Points agree that the proposed project area will provide broadband access to all the locations in the County that remain unserved by broadband.
