ICYMI: McClellan Announces USDOT Grant Funding for RIC
Washington, D.C. – In case you missed it: Congresswoman Jennifer McClellan (VA-04) announced the Capital Region Airport Commission was awarded a U.S. Department of Transportation (USDOT) Small Community Air Service Development Program (SCASDP) grant. The Capital Region Airport Commission, which oversees Richmond International Airport (RIC), will receive $1,000,000 in federal funding to support air service operations and expand service to the Pacific Northwest.
This grant award follows a congressional push by Representatives Jennifer McClellan (VA-04), Abigail Spanberger (VA-07), and Rob Wittman (VA-01) to support RIC’s grant application.
“Richmond International Airport is an important hub for travel, tourism, and commerce in Virginia’s Fourth District,” said Congresswoman McClellan. “I was proud to advocate for this federal funding to support Richmond International, especially as the airport continues to report record-breaking numbers of passengers. I am confident this funding will help further enhance their airport operations and support Richmond’s growing economy.”
“Richmond International Airport (RIC) is grateful to be named a recipient of a $1 million Small Community Air Service Development Program grant award from the U.S. Department of Transportation. The Airport plans to use this significant funding to help obtain nonstop service to Seattle, Washington, which will provide greater connectivity and access between the people and businesses of the Richmond region and the Pacific Northwest as well as to beyond points in Alaska and western Canada,” said Perry J. Miller, A.A.E., I.A.P., President and CEO of the Capital Region Airport Commission. “I also appreciate the strong support from our Congressional delegation, Senators Warner and Kaine and Representatives McClellan, Wittman, and Spanberger, who are staunch advocates for the Airport and for air service for Virginia’s Capital Region.”
