I know that Virginians are feeling the pressure of high health care costs when they fill a prescription, see a doctor or pay their monthly premium to keep their family covered. No one should face bankruptcy because of illness or be forced to choose between making rent, putting food on the table or paying for their health insurance. Congress must act to ease these burdens and ensure all Americans can access high quality, affordable health care.
In Washington, I spent months fighting back against draconian Medicaid cuts set forth by Congressional Republicans and the Trump Administration with their Big Ugly Law. Whether it’s Medicaid or enhanced premium tax credits under the Affordable Care Act, Republicans have worked against programs that help millions of Americans get coverage, lower health care costs and strengthen protections against insurance company abuses. I’m determined to change that.
As a member of the Energy and Commerce Committee during the 119th Congress, I serve on the frontlines protecting the health and economic security of those in Virginia and beyond. I have advanced bipartisan legislation to address mental health treatment shortages, introduced a bill to empower seniors to choose the best insurance plans for their needs and continued to share stories of those in my district affected by skyrocketing health care costs. In May of 2025, I sat through a 26.5 hour hearing, working through the night to oppose proposed Medicaid cuts that would cause millions to lose their coverage, force providers to shut their doors and raise premiums for the rest of us.
Health care remains a human right. I’m fighting for YOU to get the care you need, when you need it.
