We live in an era of incredible innovation, creativity and connectivity, and as your Congresswoman, I believe every Virginian should be able to benefit from it. Before becoming an elected official, I worked as a telecommunications attorney for almost a decade, and I know firsthand how important our connection with one another is. We must prioritize reliable, efficient and affordable communications infrastructure for consumers.

Under the Trump Administration, the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) has departed from its core mission to center the public good, rather than profit or political power, in regulating our media ecosystem. Under Chairman Brendan Carr’s leadership, the FCC has attempted to bully and silence voices that are not in line with their political goals. This is a dangerous threat to our First Amendment rights, and in my role on the Communications and Technology Subcommittee, I will continue to fight against attacks on the free press and the weaponization of the FCC.

We also face a clear need for increased broadband accessibility in Virginia and around the country, especially in rural communities. Millions of people still lack access to the economic, educational and recreational opportunities that high-speed internet provides. Every American should have the ability to connect and communicate, no matter socioeconomic status or zip code. I will continue to advocate for investment in broadband and communications infrastructure for those who need it most.
