McClellan Presents Nearly $2 Million in Community Project Funding to Colonial Heights and Petersburg for Water Infrastructure Projects
Petersburg, VA – Yesterday, Congresswoman Jennifer McClellan (VA-04) delivered nearly $2 million in Community Project Funding (CPF) checks to the Cities of Colonial Heights and Petersburg for water infrastructure projects.
In Colonial Heights, McClellan delivered $959,752 for its Waterline Replacement Project, which will renew aging water infrastructure and improve water quality, capacity, and pressure for many residents in the city. This project will also help prevent future water breaks that could risk contaminating the water supply, protecting thousands of residents serviced by the water distribution system.
"I am proud to secure these federal funds to ensure Colonial Heights can address and renew aging water distribution infrastructure for thousands of residents," said Congresswoman McClellan. "This key project will help residents by improving water quality, capacity, and pressure. I will continue my work in Washington to ensure all of the Fourth’s residents have access to clean and healthy water."
“The City of Colonial Heights greatly appreciates Congresswoman McClellan's support of our request for funding to replace aging waterlines in our City,” said Colonial Heights Mayor Greg Kochuba. “This award of funds is a great help in renewing part of the City's water distribution system that directly affects many residents within the City.”
In Petersburg, McClellan delivered $959,752 for its Poor Creek Force Main Capacity Improvements Project, which will replace the existing wastewater system and improve its functionality and capacity for the public. This project will replace and relocate an existing wastewater force main at the end of its useful life into a more accessible route within a larger system, reducing costly emergency repairs and preventing wastewater overflows from contaminating the Appomattox River.
"Thanks to the federal funding I secured for this project, Petersburg can replace the existing wastewater system and ensure reliable service for residents," said Congresswoman McClellan. "I’m grateful to our partners in Petersburg for their work in developing this application. This project will ensure reliable service for so many."
"I want to extend my sincere thanks to Congresswoman Jennifer McClellan for her instrumental efforts in securing funding for the Poor Creek water and wastewater upgrades in Petersburg that have been needed for 50 years,” said Petersburg Mayor Sam Parham. “These upgrades are essential for fostering economic development, particularly in relation to the expansion and sustainability of the Pharmaceutical Campus, the regional hospital, and the well-being of our residents. I commend Congresswoman McClellan for her unwavering support of Petersburg and her dedication to advancing additional grants that could further improve infrastructure throughout Petersburg. Her commitment is invaluable to our city's progress and prosperity."
During the appropriations process for Fiscal Year 2024 (FY24), McClellan successfully secured over $15 million for all 15 projects she submitted on behalf of localities in Virginia’s Fourth. These are McClellan’s second and third Community Project Funding check presentations for the FY24 appropriations process. In May, McClellan presented Henrico County officials with a $725,000 check for their Universal Broadband Deployment Project.
